What does urethral diverticulum mean? Let's talk about it
What does urethral diverticulum mean?
Small diverticulum has no clinical symptoms and is not easy to be found. The diverticulum is large. When urinating, because the urine is poured into the diverticulum, the mass can be seen or touched on the ventral side of the urethra. The mass can be compressed, and when compressed, the urine can drip out from the urethral orifice.
The above clinical symptoms should be suspected. If the opening of the diverticulum is large, the catheter can be inserted into the diverticulum during catheterization. Sometimes the catheter can be coiled in the large urethral diverticulum, and the coiled catheter can be touched by hand.
The diverticulum can be seen by urethrography. Voiding cystourethrography should be performed for posterior urethral diverticulum. Urethroscopy is also helpful for the diagnosis, but attention should be paid to avoid perforation of diverticulum
matters needing attention
Simple incision and drainage, the formation of recurrent urinary fistula. Suprapubic cystostomy or perineal urethrostomy is required for all kinds of diverticulectomy. After the urethra is completely healed, the fistula can be removed. The obstruction can be relieved immediately by transurethral incision of the anterior and posterior lip of diverticulum.
