Symptoms of chickenpox

Chickenpox often occurs in infancy, rarely in adults. The incubation period is 10-21 days, generally about 14 days. Adults may have fever, headache, sore throat, limb soreness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and other prodromal symptoms 1-2 days before the appearance of the rash, while children have no prodromal symptoms, and most of the rash and systemic symptoms appear at the same time. One to two days after the fever, the patient entered the rash stage. The rash first appeared in the trunk and head, gradually extended to the face, and finally reached the limbs. The distribution of skin rash was mainly in trunk, less in face and limbs, showing centripetal distribution. At first, it was a pink cap needle sized rash, which turned into papules within a few hours, and then into herpes after a few hours. Most of the herpes scabbed after a few days. Part of the rash from macula to papule to herpes to scab, only 6-8 hours, the rapid development of the rash is one of the symptoms of the disease. The herpes is slightly oval, 2-5mm in size. There is a ring of red halo at the base of the herpes. When the herpes begins to dry, the red halo also subsides. The rash is often itchy. Chickenpox appears clear water bead shape at the beginning, then slightly turbid, herpes wall is thin and easy to break. Chickenpox skin lesions are superficial, and there is no sense of firmness. A few days later, it begins to dry from the center of herpes, and finally forms a scab. After 1-2 weeks, it falls off. In the patients without secondary infection, there was no scar after the scab fell off. When the scab fell off, there was a light pink depression, and then it became white. Some scab rash healing, there are new rashes on the normal skin, so in the course of the disease can be seen at the same time.

Oral, pharyngeal or vulvar mucosa rash is also common, early for red papules, quickly into water herpes, then rupture into small ulcers. Sometimes the same rash occurs in the conjunctiva and throat.

Most patients with typical varicella have few rashes, with an average of about 300 herpes cases, mild systemic symptoms and less serious complications. In severe cases, the rash spread all over the body, even involving the internal organs (such as the lungs), and the systemic symptoms were also severe, with high fever and long heat course. Adult varicella is usually severe.
