How to treat middle ear barotrauma?

summary

Middle ear barotrauma is very common in our life. It refers to the middle ear trauma caused by the imbalance of pressure inside and outside the tympanic chamber due to the change of height or the change of depth during diving. During my internship in the hospital, I learned more about the disease. Now I'd like to share with you how to prevent middle ear barotrauma, hoping to help you.

How to treat middle ear barotrauma?

First, every crew member should learn how to swallow, pinch nose and inflate air, and carry out eustachian tube muscle opening training, including swallowing, throat lifting, soft palate movement and mandibular movement. If the driver has earache during the descent, he can fly back to the original height, then descend at low speed and open the eustachian tube continuously to avoid middle ear injury.

Second, strictly select flight and high-pressure operators. In the process of aircraft landing, if the baby can't cooperate with swallowing, the mother can give breast-feeding; If you have acute upper respiratory tract infection, you must be completely cured before you can fly, which can prevent the occurrence of middle ear barotrauma.

Third: when each crew member has a cold, before taking the plane, use 1 ephedrine liquid to drop in the nose, so that the nasal cavity can be unobstructed and the eustachian tube will not be blocked. If it is serious, it will be grounded temporarily.

matters needing attention

The incidence of middle ear barotrauma can be reduced by swallowing, chewing gum, yawning, drinking drinks or pinching the nose to close the mouth and inflate when descending. Because swallowing, yawning and downward movement are of great significance for opening eustachian tube and regulating tympanic pressure.
